2001 Regular Session

Senate Bill 1296

AN ACT CONCERNING SCHOOL CONSTRUCTION GRANTS.

Did not become law. It stopped in the Senate's Education Committee on March 12, 2001. The 2001 session has ended.

What it does

The synopsis the General Assembly published with the bill.

To ensure that the amount each member town in a regional school district pays toward a school building project for a regional school is based on the student population of the town. To allow the Commissioner of Education, rather than the State Board of Education, to approve construction projects at facilities that are leased. To give the commissioner the authority to enter into grant commitments for portable classrooms, under certain conditions, without requiring that applications for these projects be submitted to and approved by the General Assembly. To allow school construction projects for the improvement or installation of technology wiring, not exceeding one million dollars, to qualify for code review by the local officials having jurisdiction of the codes in the same manner as certain other types of projects, such as oil tank and roof replacement projects.
