2002 Regular Session

House Bill 5093

AN ACT PROMOTING SAFETY, EFFICIENCY AND COMMERCE IN THE PILOTAGE OF VESSELS IN LONG ISLAND SOUND.

Did not become law. It stopped in the House of Representatives's Transportation Committee on February 15, 2002. The 2002 session has ended.

What it does

The synopsis the General Assembly published with the bill.

To encourage safety, efficiency and commerce in the pilotage of vessels in Long Island Sound by (1) requiring all pilots to participate in the pilot rotation system; (2) requiring prompt payment of pilotage invoices since a pilot is the first person to render service to a vessel; (3) allowing pilots to collect pilot boat fees; (4) requiring vessel masters, owners, agents or charterers to pay a six per cent surcharge similar to the six per cent surcharge already imposed upon pilots; and (5) requiring payments made to the Department of Transportation to be used for pilot safety and training issues and for the construction or purchase of pilot boats or other pilotage equipment.
