2002 Regular Session
House Bill 5390
AN ACT CONCERNING THE PAYMENT IN LIEU OF TAXES PROGRAMS.
What it does
The synopsis the General Assembly published with the bill.
To compensate municipalities for lost revenue due to state-mandated property tax exemptions. The state mandates that its own property and the property of private colleges and hospitals be exempt from local taxes. But the state presently reimburses municipalities for just a portion of the lost real estate taxes due to this mandate. And there is no reimbursement to municipalities for lost taxes on the personal property owned by the state or by private colleges and hospitals.
