2002 Regular Session

House Bill 5393

AN ACT INCREASING THE AMOUNT OF MONEYS DISTRIBUTED TO MUNICIPALITIES FROM THE MASHANTUCKET PEQUOT AND MOHEGAN FUND.

Did not become law. It stopped in the House of Representatives's Appropriations Committee on February 20, 2002. The 2002 session has ended.

What it does

The synopsis the General Assembly published with the bill.

To increase the amount of funding distributed to municipalities by returning to the original seventy-eight per cent local share of this growing revenue stream. When created in 1993-94, the state shared seventy-eight per cent of Indian gaming revenues with local governments to provide property tax relief. Since that time, total gaming payments to the state have increased from $113 million to over $360 million per year with a projection of over $370 million in 2002. But municipalities now receive only thirty-seven and one-half per cent in 2001-02 and only thirty-six and one-half per cent in 2002-03 of this growing source of revenue, less than half the original share.
