2005 Regular Session

House Bill 6435

AN ACT PROVIDING FUNDING FOR SUPPORTIVE SERVICES FOR THE NEW SUPPORTIVE HOUSING DEMONSTRATION PROJECT AT THE WILLIAM T. ROWE PUBLIC HOUSING DEVELOPMENT IN NEW HAVEN.

Did not become law. It stopped in the House of Representatives's Housing Committee on February 25, 2005. The 2005 session has ended.

What it does

The synopsis the General Assembly published with the bill.

To support a project that will provide a cost-effective means for providing permanent, affordable housing with support for persons with behavioral health disabilities. Unlike traditional supportive housing programs, which require new funding for both housing assistance and services, the proposed Rowe demonstration project takes advantage of mainstream federal housing assistance. The Rowe demonstration project will support state and local goals to reduce and prevent homelessness by providing support necessary to help persons maintain lease compliance and avoid cycles of eviction and episodic homelessness. William T. Rowe is a particularly ideal site for this demonstration project because of its proximity to a major hospital and mental health services. The supportive housing demonstration project is intended to be coordinated with a federally-funded major renovation of the building, including development of community space for on-site services.
