2008 Regular Session
House Bill 5431
AN ACT REQUIRING A LARGER PORTION OF THE STATE REVENUE GENERATED BY THE ISSUANCE OF TRAFFIC TICKETS BY MUNICIPAL POLICE DEPARTMENTS TO BE RETURNED TO MUNICIPALITIES.
What it does
The synopsis the General Assembly published with the bill.
Motor vehicle laws are largely enforced by local police officers for violations that jeopardize safety and the quality of life in municipalities. Currently, most of the revenue from moving traffic violations is deposited as state revenue, rather than returned to municipalities where the infractions for which municipal police officers issue tickets are committed.
